Cassie Arroya Asla, QMHP
Cassie received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Portland State University and earned a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy (MA-MFT) with a specialization in Trauma-Informed Systemic Therapy from National University. Cassie’s client-centered approach is rooted in her belief that every individual has the innate capacity and desire for healing and connection. Cassie combines humor, a direct approach when needed, and her easygoing personality to create a relaxed, welcoming space where clients feel comfortable, supported, and ready to dive into the work. Cassie utilizes an integrative, evidence- based approach to therapy, drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Transformational Systemic Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Gottman Couples Therapy. By combining these frameworks, she helps clients foster lasting change, strengthen emotional resilience, and deepen meaningful connections in their relationships.
Before joining The Path Center, Cassie worked at a child- and family-focused clinic in Southeast Portland, where she provided support to marginalized youth and their families. She also co-led groups at The Portland DBT Institute, where she helped young adults, ages 18-25, develop crucial skills for understanding and managing emotions while navigating the challenges of chronic health conditions and mood disorders. Prior to her mental health work, Cassie spent years at a child development center, where she provided developmental play therapy to children and families, particularly those with children ages 6 months to 5. Additionally, Cassie spent 16 years as a stay-at-home parent to her four children and has had the privilege of welcoming a friend of her daughters into the family as an additional child since 2021, navigating the role of caregiver and parent. Her firsthand experience raising three teenagers while caring for younger children has given her unique insight into the complex challenges that families, particularly those dealing with trauma or mental health concerns, often face. Cassie recognizes the diverse nature of family dynamics and structures, understanding that every family is unique and may not fit traditional molds. She approaches her work with inclusivity and sensitivity, creating a supportive space where all family configurations are valued and respected.
In her personal life, Cassie enjoys reading, thrifting with her teens, gardening, and cheering on her children at their various sporting events, as well as spending quality time exploring the Pacific Northwest with her husband of 17 years.
