Betsy Malolepsy, She/Her
Betsy is a graduate student in clinical mental health counseling whose theoretical framework is primarily person-centered, enriched by elements of existential, feminist, queer, and family systems approaches. This integrative model reflects her belief in clients as experts of their own experience while acknowledging the impact of systemic oppression, identity formation, and the search for meaning. While these theories align with her values and worldview, she maintains flexibility in their application, recognizing that effective therapy must prioritize client needs over theoretical preferences.

Betsy's journey to mental health counseling has been shaped by diverse life experiences that inform her culturally humble approach to client care. In her early twenties, she worked and traveled extensively, developing a deep appreciation for different cultures and backgrounds. These experiences taught her the universal human need for authentic connection and the importance of creating safe spaces where people can be their true selves. As a parent of three children, including twins — one of whom is transgender — Betsy has firsthand experience supporting LGBTQIA+ youth and understanding the crucial role of acceptance and affirmation in mental health. Her experience navigating the loss of her mother to Alzheimer's has also given her a deep, personal understanding of grief and loss, enhancing her capacity for empathy and compassionate care.

Having navigated significant life transitions herself, Betsy understands the profound impact of having space to pause, reflect, and reassess. She believes in the power of being truly heard and seen, and the importance of creating an environment where clients can explore their needs, goals, and authentic selves. Through establishing a relationship built on equality, trust, mutual respect, and authenticity, clients can experience the transformative effect of genuine connection and understanding.
It can be hard to take the first step toward therapy, and Betsy honors your courage in exploring this path. If you'd like to learn more about working together, please reach out for a conversation.
